Maria Cook

Advisory BoardMaria Cook is Professor Emeritus in International and Comparative Labor at Cornell University. She has experience in research and writing on labour law and policy in Latin America, especially Mexico, and on international migration issues, including comparative immigration policies and immigration detention. Dr Cook is currently doing research with an NGO on strategies and policies to abolish immigration detention in the United States.

His debut novel, Anam, won the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Fiction, the NSW Premier’s Literary Award for New Writing, and was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award and the Voss Literary Award. In 2024, he was named a Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Australian Novelist.

Advisory BoardMaya Goodfellow is a writer and academic. Her work focuses on four intersecting areas of research: racial capitalism, immigration and bordering, the politics of international development and animal rights. She is currently a Presidential Fellow at City University, London. Her first book Hostile Environment: How Immigrants Became Scapegoats was published with Verso in 2020 and was longlisted for the Jhalak Prize.

Advisory BoardColin Yeo is an experienced immigration and asylum barrister, blogger, writer and consultant at Garden Court Chambers in London and founder of the Free Movement immigration law website. In 2022, he published the book ‘Welcome to Britain: Fixing Our Broken Immigration System’.
